FPV Goggles

FPV goggles are the display end of your video link: they receive the 5.8 GHz or digital signal and put the pilot in the aircraft's seat. The choice is effectively a choice of video ecosystem, because analog and digital goggles are not interchangeable.

Analog goggles

Analog goggles contain a 5.8 GHz receiver with antenna inputs, and display composite video on LCD or OLED panels. They are relatively inexpensive, work with any analog VTX, and degrade gracefully at the edge of range — the image gets noisy before it disappears, which experienced pilots find useful. Many support receiver modules, DVR recording and diopter or lens inserts for pilots who wear glasses.

Digital goggles

Digital systems such as Walksnail Avatar and DJI transmit a compressed HD feed, giving a far cleaner image, better resistance to multipath interference and built-in recording, at the cost of higher price, more weight and slightly more latency. Digital goggles only work with matching digital VTX hardware, so committing to a system affects your camera and VTX choice for the whole fleet.

What to compare

  • Display: resolution, field of view and whether panels are LCD or OLED.
  • Receiver: single or diversity antenna inputs, and module bay support for external receivers.
  • Fit: IPD (interpupillary distance) adjustment, face foam comfort, and whether prescription inserts are available.
  • Power: internal battery or external pack, and expected run time.
  • Recording: onboard DVR and HDMI or USB output for ground stations and training.

CSKYUAV supplies goggles and display systems from Walksnail, DJI, EMAX, Caddx and HGLRC. Match them to your VTX and camera, and upgrade reception with quality antennas from our antenna range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can analog goggles receive a digital signal?

No. Digital systems use different modulation and require matching digital goggles or a digital receiver unit. Choose your video ecosystem before buying goggles, camera or VTX.

What is a diversity receiver?

A receiver with two antenna inputs that switches to whichever antenna has the better signal. Using two differently oriented antennas greatly reduces signal dropouts during flight.

Do I need prescription inserts?

If you wear glasses, yes. Most goggles have limited focus adjustment, and custom diopter inserts let you fly without glasses inside the goggles.

How important is field of view?

A wider field of view feels more immersive and helps orientation, but it can make the image less sharp at the edges. Try different goggles if immersion versus clarity matters to you.

Can I use goggles as a ground station display?

Many goggles offer HDMI or AV output so you can mirror the pilot's view to a monitor for training, spotters or recording.

How long do goggle batteries last?

Typically two to four hours on an internal battery, depending on display brightness and receiver type. External battery options extend field sessions considerably.
